Robert Draper BA (Hons), MSc, MBACP
I'm a BACP-registered, psychodynamically trained and qualified psychotherapist. My qualifications include a diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling & Organisational Dynamics (CertHE) and a 3-year MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy both at
Birkbeck College, University of London.
People seek therapy for all kinds of reasons, and whilst some are considering therapy for the first time (a potentially daunting prospect) other people may have had therapy before, albeit a different modality such as CBT, person-centred, existential, etc. The different types of therapy can seem confusing but the most important thing, in my opinion, is the relationship you have with your therapist. In my experience therapy can help with a number of situations; some people want to learn how to handle their emotions differently; some want to improve relationships with others; some are struggling to move beyond abuse or trauma and others feel overwhelmed with feelings of depression or anxiety. While everybody's situation is different, considerable benefits can be derived from accessing the 'talking cure'. Understanding more about your feelings can lead to you becoming a more empowered and contented version of yourself.
I have been fortunate to work with a broad range of clients in organisations including Outreach Services for Octavia Foundation, Student Services for BIMM Institute (a British university for the creative industries), Terrence Higgins Trust and The Rock Clinic, a charity providing affordable counselling and psychotherapy in Brighton & Hove. I have many years’ experience working with clients to help them understand how long-standing conflicts from their past might be negatively impacting their lives today. There can be valuable breakthroughs when considering how past relationships have become blueprints for current ones and having the time and space to reflect on what has gone before can prove useful when considering current issues. I offer weekly therapy sessions that can continue for a few weeks, or be undertaken on a longer-term, open-ended basis. I practice in London and Brighton and I only see people face-to-face.
Given how important the relationship is with your therapist, the initial 50-minute consultation has a reduced fee of £60. During this time we can explore what has brought you to therapy and whether you think we could work well together. Being part of a network of therapists I can also refer you to a colleague if we agree that is appropriate.
I am a fully registered member of the BACP (www.bacp.co.uk) and abide by the BACP's Ethical Framework.
I have regular supervision and hold full professional insurance.
